French and Spanish Teacher

Faculty / Full-Time

Lawrence Academy, Groton, MA

Lawrence Academy (LA) is a boarding and day school in Groton, MA, serving 400 students in grades 9-12. LA enjoys its heritage as one of the oldest independent schools in the country while embracing a contemporary student-centered approach that supports its mission. In LA’s tightly knit environment, students are supported and encouraged to exercise their minds, discover their voices, learn creatively, and take their own initiative. The academic program is uniquely hands-on and allows students to discover how their education can be applied in daily life.

LA is seeking a full-time teacher to teach both French and Spanish beginning in August 2025. The student-centered French and Spanish language curricula at Lawrence Academy require students to develop communication skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening through the study of literature, history, culture, and grammar.

Candidates must have backgrounds in both French and Spanish, with strong preference for those who have classroom experience. This position will require teaching four sections. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach throughout the grades 9-12 French and Spanish curricula. Candidates must also be very comfortable working one-on-one with students and be open and accessible for extra help; important components of being a teacher at Lawrence Academy. Candidates should also embrace developing learning strategies to help a range of students to achieve success.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, candidates must be willing to engage in all aspects of boarding school life from curricular, co-curricular (primarily athletics), and extracurricular programming to residential life programming. Campus housing is available for faculty positions. Interested candidates should expect to live in a dormitory, but on-campus (non-dorm) or off-campus housing might be an available alternative. All members of the faculty are part of our residential program and have regular weekday night duty and some weekend duties.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Must have 2-5 years of teaching experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates interested in contributing to all aspects of boarding school life.
  • Successfully complete required background checks.

To apply for this position, please send your cover letter, resume, and reference list in a single PDF to Libby Margraf, at jobs@lacademy.edu. The email subject line should be “French & Spanish Teacher.” No phone calls please.
