Job Description: 10-month, Full-Time, Faculty

The Cambridge School of Weston seeks a full-time, experienced teacher in the English Department. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to, teaching a combination of required classes and electives that encompass the canon, contemporary literature, and literature written in and translated into English from around the world as well as facilitating sections of writing lab. The English department expects a demonstrated commitment to developing deep reading, writing, discussion, listening, and collaborative skills as well as fostering creative thinking and joy for learning. Candidates who value the writing and revision process, are comfortable with classroom technologies, can work in a collegial atmosphere, and pursue professional development as lifelong learners are strongly preferred. The ideal candidate possesses strong interpersonal skills, values progressive education, builds rapport with students, and has experience in differentiating and working in multiple modalities. Applicants should be well-versed in culturally responsive teaching practices and be interested in further developing their cultural competencies and equity literacy skills. Applicants must also be interested and adept in teaching literature through an anti-racist lens. In addition to these qualifications, our ideal candidate is flexible and values collaboration among colleagues in our vibrant, art-infused school.

Specific Responsibilities for This Position Include:

DEPARTMENTAL

● Teach 12 blocks in the English Departments that span 9th grade through 12th grade. Each block is a six-week course that meets for 90 minutes each day. A full-time faculty member teaches two blocks per module.

● Be the Director of the Writing Hub (peer-student writing center).

● Participate actively in weekly department meetings.

● Facilitate sections of Writing FUNdamentals (writing lab).

● Stay current in English Language Arts education and developmentally appropriate reading and writing pedagogy at the high school level.

● Develop specific curricula expertise and contribute to the diversity of course offerings.

● Seek yearly professional development.

COMMUNITY

● Contribute to the school with the equivalence of a teaching block through professional development and committee work.

● Participate actively in weekly department meetings.

● Offer two blocks of “D Block,” our after-school activities, enrichment, and athletics program, with a preference given to those who can support team sports.

● Advise up to eight students.

● Participate in our co-curricular PACE programming. Through the PACE program (Promoting Awareness and Community Engagement), we dedicate time during the mod and the year for experiential classes, events, and activities that prepare our students to meet the demands of an increasingly complex and diverse world. A four-year co-curriculum, PACE has been designed to ensure that all CSW students develop self-awareness, social consciousness, healthy living habits, life skills, and leadership that will serve them into adulthood.

● Participate in up to two alliance/affinity groups, student clubs, or committees.

● Chaperone two weekend activities each year to support our boarding students.

● CSW also values candidates who are interested and/or have experience with the residential life program (housing provided).

Skills and Qualifications:

● Bachelor of Arts degree or equivalent required; Master’s degree strongly preferred.

● Minimum of three years of teaching experience is required; five to seven years of teaching experience is strongly preferred.

● Background in writing center peer tutor methodologies strongly preferred.

● Experience working with neuro-diverse learners and ELL is strongly preferred.

● Facility with using classroom technology effectively in teaching and learning, specifically GSuite for Education and Blackbaud
