Description
Fay School seeks a dynamic, flexible, and creative individual who loves teaching drama and understands how to engage elementary and middle school students. The Drama Teacher teaches drama classes to students in grades three through nine, assists in the production of the Primary and Lower School plays, and assists in the production of the Upper School spring musical. Outside the classroom, they are an advisor to a small group of students and coach or assist in afternoon programs. The Drama Teacher helps students develop skills such as movement, communication of verbal and non-verbal ideas, empathy, and understanding of human behavior and motivation. This is a full-time position and is eligible for benefits.
Qualifications
Candidates should have teaching experience, preferably in an elementary and/or middle school setting. A bachelor’s degree in drama, drama education, or a related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred. Working professionals with teaching experience, as well as their own performance pursuits, are encouraged to apply. Teacher certification is not required.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing and presenting appropriate materials, lessons, and regular assessments for drama students in grades 3-9 using a variety of teaching strategies
- Assessing students’ performance and issuing effort grades and comments
- Integrating academic technology to enhance instruction as appropriate
- Communicating effectively with parents
- Attending team and department meetings and major school events as needed
- Attending faculty and department meetings
- Assisting in the production of the Upper School spring musical
- Coaching or assisting in one term of afternoon programs
- Performing duties to support the School’s residential life program
