JOB SUMMARY: The director of technology at Berwick Academy manages the technological resources of the School. From individual employee workstations and support thereof, to procurement and implementation of schoolwide information systems, to strategic planning, the director of technology plays a key role in the overall operational effectiveness of the organization. This position comes with substantial budgetary and supervisory responsibility. The Technology Office staff comprises two full-time positions: a systems administrator and a help desk technician. Security of the Berwick Academy network is of the utmost importance to the director’s portfolio, including maintenance of secure systems and proactive training of the workforce to anticipate and mitigate threats. Success in this position requires a high degree of technical skill, a problem solving, service orientation, and a strategic, forward looking approach.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Serve as leader of the School’s Technology Team
  • Responsible for the school’s data systems functionality, inclusive of backup systems, network security systems, disaster recovery procedures, and support services
  • Collaborate with CFO to develop annual schoolwide technology budget and project hardware and systems maintenance and capital expenditure needs in future years
  • Coordinate and direct implementation of information systems as the School’s needs evolve
  • Maintain security of the Berwick Academy digital network. Provide for training of workforce on security practices to keep network secure
  • Oversee delivery of tech support via Berwick Academy Help Desk ticketing system ensuring high quality, timely assistance to users schoolwide
  • Provide ongoing oversight and administrative direction to all ongoing technology projects and all active initiatives on campus, including promoting and planning user training
  • Maintain and manage stock of technology hardware. Manage system for rotating renewal of employees’ workstations schoolwide
  • Hire and manage the work of outside contractors from the bidding process to on-time project completion. Manage temp staff as needed
  • Stay current on industry standards and innovation through a commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Ensure the IT department operation adheres to applicable laws and regulations
  • Hire, supervise, and develop the Technology Office staff and liaise with the Lower, Middle, and Upper School Division Directors as well as faculty and administrative staff

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS or equivalent in related field
  • Five years’ progressive experience managing a tech department
  • Experience supervising tech staff
  • Intercultural competence, ability to work with sensitivity and effectiveness with students, families, colleagues of diverse backgrounds and identities
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced degree in related field
  • Ten years’ relevant experience
  • Experience running a technology department in an educational institution

  • Organizational skills; ability to manage a broad scope of activities with multiple collaborators and competing deadlines
  • Interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate and work effectively on teams
  • Project management and budgeting skills
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit at a computer and keyboard for substantial periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. on occasional basis.
  • Mobility sufficient to move about the campus
  • Ability to communicate clearly
