Description: Glen Urquhart School seeks a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and strategic leader to serve as Director of Summer and Auxiliary Programs. This year-round, full-time position is a member of the GUS Administrative Team and plays a critical role in advancing the School’s mission through the development, management, and growth of non-tuition, revenue-generating programs.

The Director oversees all summer and auxiliary programming—including AfterSchool, SUMMER@GUS, FUN@GUS vacation camp programs, EXPLORE@GUS enrichment classes, and transportation — and works collaboratively across departments to ensure these programs are mission-aligned, financially sound, and strategically positioned for long-term growth.

Reporting directly to the Head of School and working closely with the Director of Finance, the Director of Summer + Auxiliary Programs is a key partner in identifying opportunities to expand program offerings, leverage campus and faculty expertise, and grow auxiliary income in thoughtful, sustainable ways.

 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Strategic Leadership & Administrative Team Partnership

  • Serve as an active and collaborative member of the GUS Administrative Team, contributing to school-wide planning, decision-making, and long-range strategy
  • Partner closely with the Head of School and Director of Finance to set financial goals, monitor performance, and identify opportunities for strategic growth in auxiliary revenue
  • Build strong connections between academic programming and auxiliary offerings, leveraging the School’s mission, people, and campus in creative and mission-aligned ways
  • Think expansively and entrepreneurially about new programs, partnerships, and offerings that strengthen both community engagement and financial sustainability

Program Oversight & Development

  • Direct and oversee SUMMER@GUS, an ACA-accredited camp with an outstanding reputation across the North Shore
  • Develop, implement, and manage auxiliary programs during the academic year, including AfterSchool, vacation programming, transportation, and enrichment offerings
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise year-round and seasonal staff for all summer and auxiliary programs, ensuring strong leadership, clear expectations, and a positive, mission-aligned culture
  • Build staffing models that balance program quality, financial sustainability, and the developmental needs of children
  • Ensure program quality, safety, and consistency across all auxiliary offerings
  • Evaluate programs regularly for both financial viability and mission alignment, making data-informed recommendations for growth and program refinements
  • Create an annual department budget and manage resources to operate within financial expectations and benchmarks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • A bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred)
  • Five to seven years of administrative leadership experience in summer, auxiliary, or youth-serving programs, preferably in a nonprofit or independent school setting
  • Experience working directly with children and families
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and CampBrain (or other camp management system); comfort learning new platforms and using data to inform decisions.
  • Top-notch organizational and operational management skills
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial mindset and comfort with innovation and growth
  • Familiarity with marketing, enrollment, and program promotion
  • Participation in or familiarity with professional organizations such as SPARC, ACA, or similar associations is preferred
