Cushing Academy seeks a full-time Director of Student Affairs starting July 1, 2022. The Director of Student Affairs is involved in all aspects of the Student Affairs Office in helping to shape the student experience and the student culture at Cushing Academy. This position provides leadership to the Office of Student Affairs, dorm heads and the residential life program, the advisory program, community weekends, the Health Center and Counseling Office and oversees all areas pertaining to the daily health and well-being of students during their attendance at the Academy. The Director of Student Affairs develops and implements programming that supports the needs of our diverse student population.

Responsibilities:

The next Director of Student Affairs will be responsible for the following:

  • Lead, develop, and manage the Office of Student Affairs
  • Oversee the Residential Life Program, working closely with the Associate Director of Student Affairs, Dorm Heads, Counseling Office, Health Center, and student proctors to promote a healthy and engaging residential experience for Cushing students
  • Partner with the Associate Director of Student Affairs, Director of Inclusion and Community Life, Academic Office, Director of Student Activities, Health Center, Director of Counseling and other key constituencies to create and implement student programming
  • Lead, coordinate, develop, and assess Cushing’s On Campus Weekend Programming with the Associate Director of Student Affairs
  • Lead, develop and implement all student leadership programs
  • Help to Develop and implement faculty orientation, and new student orientation with various stakeholders • Lead, develop, implement, and manage the Advising System
  • Oversee, develop, assess, and coordinate a slate of dynamic weekend activities over the course of the year in coordination with the Director of Student Activities
  • Research trends and convey necessary information, training, and professional development to faculty
  • Conduct disciplinary meetings for violations of major policies and follow the Academy’s processes, communicating effectively with students, parents, administrators, and faculty during the discipline process
  • Maintain records of student attendance, citizenship, and conduct
  • Review and evaluate effectiveness of disciplinary processes, and coordinate with the Head of School on revisions to the system
  • Oversee all Administrators on Duty, including residential life protocols and procedures
  • Oversee and develop all student clubs and events
  • Manage and maintain REACH Boarding system
  • Maintain and supervise budgets of the Office of Student Affairs and reporting departments
  • Organize, create, and manage various student activities, including class activities, on-campus community weekends, student orientation, and community lunches
  • Partner with Head of School and Director of Academic Affairs to coordinate residential life assignments
  • Partner with the Director of Inclusion and Community Life as part of the school’s ongoing work on Inclusion and Belonging initiatives
  • Attend Senior Administration and Academic/Student Life Team meetings, Retention/Student Experience Committee Meetings, and other meetings as necessary
  • Teach one or two classes and serve as an Administrator on Duty • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to envision programs that help drive the student culture of the Academy, while assessing their current strengths and weaknesses, and determine direction for meeting the Academy’s mission and vision
  • Strong initiative to create events/programs that serve the Academy’s student population
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, select weekends, and emergencies
