Director of Marketing & Communications

An independent school for girls in grades 6-12, guided by the teachings of the Catholic Church, Montrose School was founded in 1979 and is located in the welcoming community of Medfield, 17 miles southwest of Boston. Montrose School attracts a talented and growing student population from 50 towns and communities.
Montrose seeks a full-time, twelve-month Director of Marketing & Communications beginning immediately. The Director of Marketing & Communications plays an important role in developing and implementing the school’s strategic marketing and communications plan. In partnership with the Director of Advancement, the Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for leading the school’s strategic marketing initiatives, including publications, advertising, website, social media and branding across all departments. Responsibilities include planning, overseeing and executing the graphic design of print and digital collateral, internal and external communications and media relations. The Director serves as a member of the Management Team.
The salary range for this position is $75,000 – $85,000 depending on experience.
Responsibilities include:
Marketing
- In partnership with the Director of Advancement, develop and implement a comprehensive marketing plan for the school, to include an internal marketing strategy to reinforce the school’s value proposition to the parent community, and an external marketing strategy that will generate increased visibility and brand awareness.
- Develop a powerful, unified brand identity and enforce brand standards across the school community. Ensure all messaging is aligned and on-brand. Maintain the school’s brand and style guide.
- Systematically capture and disseminate stories, data and accomplishments via various channels with the goal of strengthening reputation, empowering ambassadors, growing enrollment, and inspiring philanthropy.
- Collaborate closely with the Office of Admission to develop, implement and assess strategic marketing programs to meet enrollment goals.
- In collaboration with the Marketing & Communications Assistant, develop and maintain a social media calendar for each of the school’s channels and draft regular posts and stories.
- In partnership with digital marketing consultant, maintain a dashboard of digital marketing metrics and recommendations to optimize performance (to include social media, website, SEM/SEO, Google Ads/keywords, etc.).
- Manage media relations. Submit press releases and track press hits.
- Maintain and update digital school review sites.
Communications
- Design and oversee the production of content, including print and digital collateral, social media, video, publications, website and other digital portals, ads, e-newsletters, etc., in collaboration with the Director of Advancement, the Marketing & Communications Assistant, and other senior leaders.
- Manage the migration of the school’s website to a new platform and provide ongoing content maintenance. Ensure all parts of the website are clear, accurate, attractive, easy to navigate, contain a clear call to action and reflect our value proposition.
- Oversee the creation and dissemination of publications including semiannual magazines and Annual Report.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to develop a school-wide communications calendar that is responsive to communications needs of all constituents.
- In partnership with the Marketing & Communications Assistant, maintain the school’s digital assets/photo archives in a manner that promotes consistent naming conventions and streamlined content retrieval.
- Maintain relationships with hired photographers/videographers and manage their site visits.
- Independently capture and edit photo and video content to support marketing and communications efforts.
Other
- Be the face of the school’s Marketing and Communications efforts for both internal and external audiences.
- Possess a desire to immerse oneself in the day-to-day happenings of the school to capture compelling content and authentically communicate the school’s story.
- Provide excellent customer service to colleagues; listen attentively to their goals and help bring their vision to life in a collaborative nature.
- Supervise the work of marketing and communications staff, including the Marketing & Communications Assistant, external vendors and consultants.
- Manage Marketing & Communications budget; provide recommendations to the Director of Advancement, CFOO and Head of School regarding funding for strategic department initiatives.
- Support and attend school-associated events on and off campus, including occasional evenings and weekends.
A compelling candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Communications or related field
- 5+ years of experience working in Marketing/Communications/Graphic Design, preferably in a nonprofit/independent school environment
- Strong writing skills with a great passion and appreciation for the craft. Capable of distilling verbose narratives into pithy, easily-digestible content
- Experience using tools to manage a school’s digital platforms and social media (Meta, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn).
- Proficiency in graphic design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.), Google Suite, and Microsoft Office
- Experience managing websites, including maintaining SEO-friendly content
- Exceptional communication and problem solving skills. Sees a challenge as an opportunity.
- Superior attention to detail and proven time management skills
- Excellent proofreading capabilities
- Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously and utilizing systems/tools to support this work
