
Director of Equity & Belonging/US Humanities Teacher

RHCD seeks a half-time Director of Equity and Belonging and a half-time Upper School Humanities teacher.
RHCD students build competencies in thinking critically, navigating the world ethically, and communicating intentionally to discover their full selves and use their wisdom for good. We focus on an interactive, inquiry-based educational experience, mindfulness, and meaningful relationships with adults on campus. Our multifaceted student body comprises domestic and
international students, and our intentionally small school community allows for personalized instruction and creates a familial setting throughout campus. Rocky Hill students and faculty wrestle with necessary, candid conversations in equity and belonging, to build the school community we strive to have and to prepare students for the world they will shape. Overlooking acres of saltwater marsh on the magnificent coast of Narragansett Bay, Rocky Hill Country Day School’s stunning campus fosters exploration and discovery for students in all divisions, nursery through grade 12. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● As Chair of the E+B Committee, lead the School community in fostering equity, fairness, inclusion, and belonging.
● Provide strategic direction on developing relationships with underserved/ underrepresented communities.
● Work with the Head of School, Division Heads, and other School leaders to provide professional development for faculty, staff, and board members in DEI.
● Coordinate with the Division Heads, Dean of Student Life, and other faculty/staff to plan and implement DEI programming for students in grades N -12.
● Help to facilitate affinity groups, student discussions, and other student activities.
● Work with the Admissions Office and other administration to recruit, welcome, and retain students and faculty from diverse backgrounds.
● Act as a resource for faculty and staff in providing academic, emotional, and social support for students/families of diverse backgrounds
● Provide support for students and families from underrepresented or historically marginalized or oppressed groups as a collaborative member of the Student Support Team.
● Collaborate as a member of the Administrative Leadership Team and report directly to the Head of School.
● Perform other duties as assigned by, and in support of, the Head of School.
● Teach two sections of History and perform associated duties
The candidate will possess the following:
● Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
● Ability to balance advocacy needed to promote change with diplomacy required to engender broad community support for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
● Experience working with students in diversity work and demonstrated ability to establish trust and rapport.
● Experience initiating open discussions around topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion with students, faculty and staff, and families.
● Deep grounding in theory and best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion work.
● Ability to manage and address conflict.
● Strong listening and facilitation skills.
● Leadership experience and strong organizational skills.
● Familiarity with inquiry-based pedagogy, including project-based learning, Harkness discussions, and other experiential approaches.
Education & Experience:
● Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred in related field
● Teaching experience in the field of education within the humanities
● Experience in Equity and Inclusion fields in schools
