JCDS, Boston’s Jewish Community Day School (, seeks a seasoned development professional to lead the development efforts and generate funds to support and enhance the school’s furtherance and growth.

We are: a vibrant community in metropolitan Boston, located in Watertown, MA, adjacent to Cambridge and Newton. We serve students in grades Kindergarten through 8. Founded in 1995, JCDS is where students, parents and faculty experience academic growth, intellectual stimulation, deep Jewish meaning and joy, and strong personal connections.

As an independent, pluralist, co-educational Jewish day school, JCDS attracts students and families from throughout the Boston area including an increasing number of Israelis. Families embrace a wide spectrum of Jewish beliefs and practices and philosophical tenets. Additionally, the school has a strong financial commitment to economic diversity. The role is: to lead development and marketing efforts, including elevating the visibility and impact of the school, as well as generating the funds necessary to meet the goals and mission of the school. By maximizing philanthropic giving to the school, JCDS is enabled to: provide more financial aid to families; fund capital improvements and expansion; support more robust teacher salaries; enable educational innovation; and ensure teachers stay on the cutting edge of teaching practices necessary for 21st century including critical thinking skills, STEAM, multiple perspective taking, developing empathy for difference, and exposure to authentic and multiple ways of being in relationship with Judaism.

Reporting to the Head of School and working closely with the Board of Trustees and Development Committee, the Director of Development provides leadership, sets the strategy, and manages and implements the school’s development and marketing plans. This position supervises the development and communications staff.


Create a compelling strategy and lead the plans for sustaining and growing philanthropic revenue for the school.

Build on and be responsible for comprehensive fundraising programs, including the annual campaign, major gifts, and special campaigns.

Partner with the Head of School, Board president, Board members, staff and other volunteers to achieve fundraising goals.

Further cultivate a robust pipeline of donors.

Manage the school’s donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship protocols, using the data system.

Tailor individual reports to donors and foundations, as needed.

Align the solicitor training program for the board and other solicitors, based on the priorities of the campaign and our strategic plan.

Oversee a system of documentation to track donor pledges and commitments in coordination with the finance office.

Work with the development and communications staff to create and execute a marketing and communication plan that supports the school’s enrollment, financial growth and strategic priorities.

Coordinate materials and messaging that supports the school’s value proposition and uniqueness so that it is compelling to attract and retain funders and parents.

Seek out prominent and distinctive opportunities for JCDS to garner visibility in the Jewish community and beyond.


Position is full-time, 40 hours per week.

Annual Salary Range: $100,000-140,000 Based on Experience


BA required.

At least 7 years of experience in fundraising and marketing, preferably in a Jewish setting, with proven successes in using marketing strategies for successful fundraising.

Proven track record in comprehensive campaigns and experience with major gifts.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills in supervision, collaboration and mentoring.

Experience in using and analyzing electronic databases.

Capacity to manage details and broad overview while bringing multiple projects to fruition with grace, speed and flexibility.


Experience with development software required, Raiser’s Edge and Blackbaud experience is strongly preferred.

Demonstrated ability for strong writing; interpersonal and organizational skills; keen eye for detail.

Demonstrated ability to take initiative and lead, while at the same time ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to execute projects to their completion.


Ability to:  walk .25 miles; sit at a desk for up to four hours at a time to perform necessary paperwork; speak over the telephone; do work using computer keyboard and monitor.
