Annual Salary Range: $90,000 – $110,000

Under the general direction of the Assistant Head of School for Student Engagement and Well-being, the Director of Counseling coordinates all aspects of mental health support at Thayer in collaboration with the Nurse Team, Director of the Learning Center, Middle School Director, Upper School Dean of Students, and our teaching faculty. The Director of Counseling works to ensure a proactive and integrated approach to the support and care of all Thayer students.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversight of counseling services provided for Thayer Academy Upper and Middle School Divisions.
  • Supervision of counseling staff; 2 US Counselors and 1 MS Counselor. 
  • Review of neuropsychological and psychoeducational evaluations of Thayer students in partnership with the Director of the Hale Learning Center, MS and US.
  • Partner with the Director of the Learning Center in developing and implementing student support plans that overlap academic and mental health/social-emotional support. 
  • Attend Student Support Meetings in both Upper and Middle School Divisions. 
  • Consult on any mental health-related medical leaves and associated return-to-school plans.
  • Provide Professional Development for faculty and staff. 
  • Consult with faculty regarding social/emotional and mental health concerns with students. 
  • Develop programming and provide support for parents/guardians specific to mental health. 
  • Co-lead development of 11th-grade health and wellness curriculum. 
  • Support 9th and 10th grade health and wellness classes specific to Mental Health.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Head of School for Student Engagement and Well-being and other relevant division leaders in working to proactively develop a community culture that prioritizes meaningful student engagement
  • Coordinate an “intro to counseling” meeting for all new US students and an outreach to all seniors in the fall of senior year. 
  • Works with students, their families, and staff to ensure the needs of each student are identified and met. 
  • Performs other related duties and tasks as assigned.

 

Compensation

  • $90,000 – $110,000

Qualifications

  • Possible qualifications and licensure: current licensure as a LMHC, LCSW, School Psychologist, or Clinical Psychologist. 
  • Minimum of five years experience working in the area of mental health. 
  • Familiarity and comfort with working in a school environment.
