Director of Cambridge Friends Extended

Administrator / Full-Time

Cambridge Friends School, Cambridge, MA

The School:  Cambridge Friends is a Pre-K through grade eight day school, the only Quaker school in Massachusetts.  Every day we engage children in meaningful learning experiences within a caring community.  Our strength derives from the passion of our educators, students, parents, and friends and from the Quaker principles of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship.

The Position:  Cambridge Friends currently seeks an intelligent, compassionate, organized, and creative director for its Extended Day and Summer Programs.

The Director of Cambridge Friends Extended envisions and administers all aspects of both the school’s extended day and summer programs.  The Extended Day program is an important, flexible resource for Cambridge Friends families who seek safe and enriching before (7:15-8:00 am) and after-school (3:00-5:45 pm) experiences for their children.  Currently serving some fifty students enrolled in our Pre-K through Grade Eight classes, XD teachers offer age-appropriate activities indoors and out that encourage children to explore, discover, and create.  They foster social and emotional learning among younger students and encourage older students to embrace personal responsibility and leadership opportunities.

The Summer Program is relatively new to Cambridge Friends and extends the school’s mission for eight weeks of the summer.  Striking a balance between summer camp and summer school, the program is open to Cambridge Friends families, as well as to students from the wider community.  Each week explores a different theme through arts, games, brain workouts, and projects, making use of our fields, playground, play garden, and air-conditioned classrooms.

Essential Responsibilities:  The Director designs program, hires, supervises, and mentors the Extended Day faculty and the Summer Program staff, and collaborates with the Head of School, Director of Finance and Administration, Director of Communications, Building Manager, and After School Music Program Director to meet the needs of our students and families.  The Director serves as a member of the school’s administrative team, and the position is a twelve-month, full-time role with variable hours.

Qualifications:  The ideal candidate will have experience developing and administering curricular and/or co-curricular programs, working with children ages four to fourteen, mentoring faculty and staff, and collaborating with parents.  The successful candidate will possess organizational skills and enjoy teaching children from time to time.

Salary:  The school provides a competitive salary and benefits.

Cambridge Friends seeks candidates who will add to our diverse community and does not discriminate based on race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status.

Interested candidates should send a resume and letter of interest to David Tierney, Head of School, at .
