Job Description Summary/Objective
With Lawrence Academy proceeding with a historic fundraising campaign, the Director of Alumni
Programs and Giving will be responsible for coordinating and managing Alumni efforts for the
Advancement Office. The Director of Alumni Programs and Giving has both an internal and external role,
cultivating, stewarding, and soliciting major Alumni gifts, and managing two alumni-specific roles
fostering constructive working relationships with the development team and wider faculty and staff to
ensure the smooth achievement of development goals.
The Director of Alumni Programs & Giving will work closely with the Director of Development to deliver
Lawrence Academy’s development goals and set the standard for best practice Alumni Giving in a
progressive independent school environment.
The Director of Alumni Programs & Giving reports directly to the Director of Development.
Requirements/Essential Functions
Responsibilities:
● Coordinate the daily operations of the alumni giving within the advancement office to ensure
annual metrics are achieved on time and within budget
● Oversee the Alumni Leadership Gift Officer and Young Alumni Coordinator (future hire) and set
and track their monthly, quarterly and annual goals
● Hold a portfolio of 100-150 households to solicit gifts for the LA Fund and major capital and
endowment gifts for the school’s comprehensive campaign. These gifts will be solicited from a
portfolio of alumni and will include the solicitation of annual fund and major gifts
● Coordinate and implement a cultivation and stewardship strategy which engages, recognizes, and
celebrates donors in a meaningful way and strengthens their relationship with Lawrence Academy
● Review current engagement strategy for Alumni and design and execute a year-round alumni
engagement plan
● Develop and grow relationships with leadership gift prospects through phone, email, video call,
and face-to-face meetings
● Engage alumni in planned giving opportunities with other frontline fundraisers in advancement
office
● In concert with the Director of Advancement Communications and Events, manage Alumni
programming activities including: reunion-based activities and events, the Alumni Speaker Series
(one session per term), the Alumni Career Panels (one session per term), regional Alumni events
● Collaborate with the Director of Advancement Communications and Events to support all
fundraising communications efforts including direct mail appeals, email appeals, social media posts
and impact reports
● Partner with the Director of Development to build and oversee all alumni-centric volunteer
committees including: The Alumni Council, Class Agents, Reunion Committee Chairs
● Collaborate with the Director of Advancement Communications and Events to publish the monthly
Elm Tree Gazette alumni newsletter
● Ensure accurate and timely reporting of progress against annual fundraising goals and metrics and
take any needed corrective action
● Collaborate with colleagues and assist the Director of Development in all development operations.
● Serve as an ambassador for Lawrence Academy, representing the school at internal and external
events
Qualifications & Skills
● Bachelor’s degree
● Passion for Lawrence Academy’s mission
● 4-6 years of fundraising experience with 1-3 years of demonstrated personal solicitation experience
● Experience managing a portfolio of 50+ prospects and donors
● Proven track record closing four-figure/five-figure gifts and upgrading current donors
● 1-3 years of team management experience
● Exceptional reasoning, problem-solving and analytical skills, including an ability to translate ideas
and concepts into clear, actionable steps
● Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to display sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy
● Excellent communication and writing skills and the ability to work collaboratively
● Experience staffing volunteer groups to engage and involve donors and prospects
● Experience partnering with senior administrators and trustees in fundraising efforts
● Desire to work in a team environment
● Meticulous attention to detail
● Highly organized with the ability to move from task to task with ease
● Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with teammates
● Experience working in Raiser’s Edge database or transferable experience
● Experience with international giving a plus
