Director of After School Programs

Brimmer and May School is seeking a Director of After School Programs for the 2024-2025 school year to oversee its Lower School Extended Day and After School Clubs and to support its After School Music lessons. This position is full-time nonexempt, and eligible for benefits. The Director of After School Programs will report to the Director of Auxiliary Programs and the Head of the Lower School.

• Provide primary administration of Extended Day.
o Set up and manage registration for After School programs on Brimmer’s database.
o Work with Auxiliary Program Director to set and manage budget.
o Database administration including registration and payments and adjustments.
o Submit payroll on bi-weekly basis for Extended Day staff.

• Hire and manage Extended Day staff. *
o Update job descriptions and post opportunities. Interview candidates. Solicit and review references.
o Design and run staff meetings and trainings, with assistance of Auxiliary Program Director.
o Work with the Business Office to onboard staff.
o Schedule staff to ensure coverage as needed for Extended Day.
*While this position is a 10-month position that aligns with the academic calendar, the Director of After School Programs is expected to work during summer hours as needed to ensure staff is hired, onboarded, and the team is ready for a September 1 start.

• Programming and Curriculum
o Facilitate curriculum and structure of programming for Extended Day attendees.
o Work collaboratively with Brimmer faculty and staff to share classroom space as needed.
o Create daily attendance rosters that include attendees of all LS after school programs.

• Coordinate After School Clubs programming.
o Identify and develop clubs for Fall, Winter, and Spring programming across all LS grades, ensuring options for all age groups (Pre-K – Grade 5). Clubs run one day per week for 6-9 weeks.
o Develop schedule and budget for clubs.
o Submit payroll for clubs to Business Office.

• Communicate with parents and guardians as needed and with the utmost standards of professionalism.
• Coordinate and manage Spring Break Vacation Program and Conference Day coverage.
• Ensure safety across all programs.
• Perform additional duties as required.
o Including light coverage duties (e.g. front desk lunch coverage, occasional recess duty).

• Supervisory or leadership experience in recreation and / or education
• A bachelor’s degree

• Experience and a demonstrated enthusiasm for working with children.
• A desire to work in a collaborative and team-based environment.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Organized and resourceful problem solver.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Experience working with database programs and willingness to learn new programs.
• Takes initiative and ownership of work in an office setting.
• Ability to balance and manage multiple projects at once.
• Experience with budget tracking.
• Demonstrated experience in customer service.
• Demonstrated flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of elementary age students and their needs and abilities.

Position Details:

The full time start date for this position is: September 1, 2024* (see above regarding pre-September hours). Typical school day hours are 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., however conference days and Spring Break camp hours vary.

Excellent benefits package including health, dental, paid vacation, and summer and vacation camp abatement for school-aged children. Salary is comparable to that of a beginner teacher.
