Heronfield Academy is an independent middle school located on a pastoral 13-acre campus on the New Hampshire Seacoast.  Serving approximately 90 students in grades 6 through 8, Heronfield provides an academically challenging curriculum centered on nurturing students through the core values of Honesty, Respect, Diligence, Celebration, and Caring.  Heronfield’s teachers are dedicated to working with middle school students in this important period of academic, emotional and personal growth.  As a small school, each person contributes to the community in many ways and also shares the joy of the important work we do together.

Heronfield Academy seeks a full-time Director of Advancement who will coordinate all fundraising efforts for the school, working with the Board of Trustees and Head of School and the Board of Trustees to create and bring forth annual and long-range plans for increasing individual and organizational giving.  Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying and cultivating major gift opportunities, both in the school community and through corporate giving and foundation grants, to support the school’s Strategic Goals.
  • Partnering with the school’s leadership in support of Heronfield’s program and its future success, both in strengthening the existing fundraising base and attracting new donors.  
  • Leading the school’s engagement efforts to keep alumni, families and friends connected to the school community.  This will include organizing in-person and virtual events that will help showcase the school’s faculty, students, and programs.
  • Overseeing both the Heronfield Fund and the annual Spring Fundraising Gala, including the organizing of a volunteer committee and the solicitation of sponsorships and auction items.  
  • Leading the communications and marketing efforts – through print, online, and social media –  to promote Heronfield to prospective students, families, alumni and the greater community.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A commitment to the mission and core values of the school and to the growth of young people
  • A Bachelor’s degree in communication or marketing, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of related fundraising and marketing experience, preferably in an educational or other non–profit setting, as well as experience in grant writing  
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and use of technology including Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge (or similar database management software), and Google applications
  • Ability to think creatively and work strategically with the administration, faculty, and Board of Trustees
  • A positive, team-oriented approach to bringing all measures of success to the school
