Gould Academy is seeking an enthusiastic culture leader and student advocate. This leader champions a student driven community marked by resilience, respect, inclusivity and belonging. They play a pivotal role in designing and ensuring a nurturing environment where wellness is central to the student experience, and adolescents are given agency, structure, and mentorship to thrive and grow. The scope and influence of the Dean is best described as culture shaper and systems builder. The daily expectations of student life, the frequent collaboration with adults to ensure safe and inclusive environments, and the hopes and visions for a community that is both safe and playful requires the Dean to think creatively while implementing clearly and equitably.
Job Summary Dean of Community Life and Belonging
The Dean of Community Life and Belonging leads daily student life operations and provides strategic administrative oversight and management of the student experience, including community life, residential life, advising and belonging. The Dean of Community Life and Belonging champions a student driven community and culture marked by resilience, respect, inclusivity, belonging, and provides a nurturing environment where wellness is central to the student experience, and adolescents are given agency, structure, and mentorship to thrive and grow. Relational coordination among program leaders and Deans is central to success.
Leadership and Strategy
The Dean of Community Life and Belonging collaborates with faculty and dormitory faculty residents to design, develop, and implement a comprehensive and innovative community and residential life curriculum that aligns with the school’s mission, educational goals, and strategic initiatives. The Dean collaborates with advisors and Health Center staff to support and respond to student wellness, development, and safety.
Faculty Development, Performance and Evaluation
The Dean of Community Life and Belonging works in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to train and support faculty members in their community life engagement practices. In conjunction with the Assistant Head of School and the Associate Head of School for Strategy and Talent, the Dean oversees performance by conducting regular evaluations and assessments of faculty in community life roles. This process aims to offer constructive feedback and support for professional growth and training. The Dean takes on the responsibility of promoting and fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus community.
System Procedures and Administration of Student Development
The Dean of Community Life and Belonging oversees and proactively enhances various aspects of the student experience. This includes collaborating to design and oversee community life programs, encompassing advising, ‘Notches,’ residential life, weekend/day activities, and community days (e.g., Mountain Day, Winter Carnival). The Dean of Community Life and Belonging works in partnership with the Deans’ group and student leadership to ensure that programming, policies, and procedures are centered around students, aligned with the mission, and effective in terms of educational impact and risk management.

Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, year round, exempt position beginning July 1, 2024. Benefits include a generous retirement plan match, cost sharing for health and dental insurance, free $50,000 life and LTD insurances, health savings contribution, discounted season pass to Sunday River, four weeks vacation, plus holidays, wellness culture with an annual contribution to employee wellness preferences and encouragement to participate in Mountain Day and Ski Day, academy “days off” when the community comes together outside of the classroom. Gould provides meals at our campus dining facility for you and your family. Campus provided housing could be a component of the benefit package. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
