SUMMARY

Gann Academy seeks an inspiring, creative Dance Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. This position will teach a dance course, Movement and Dance Techniques. In addition, the Dance Teacher is a member of the core faculty of the Arts Department, with activities including advising, supervising special events, and related activities that contribute to the school community and the educational experience of our students.

This course runs Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4 to 5 PM throughout the school year.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead students through warm-ups, center work, traveling movements, and phrase work. Forms may include modern, contemporary, ballet, and jazz.
  • Create and teach a class that allows students to pursue the embodiment of stability, strength, and movement efficiency and focus on their alignment, movement vocabulary, and choreographic process.
  • This course should be designed for any student interested in exploring dance. Students with no prior experience or those with extensive experience are welcome.

Additional Job Responsibilities Related to Classroom Teaching

  • Teach one class per semester, Movement and Dance Techniques.
  • Prepare lessons and develop a curriculum.
  • Teach, lead, and guide students.
  • Manage student behavior in and out of the classroom.
  • Grade student work on time consistent with school standards.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with students (in person and via email) regarding class performance, engagement, and learning.
  • Utilize technology and other educational tools to support student learning and engage in curricular and other initiatives as implemented by the Educational Administration.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, and WORK-RELATED EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in dance or equivalent experience
  • Three years of secondary-level classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Knowledge of subjects assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical demands include dexterity in operating office machines and supplies, including, but not limited to, computers, telephones, copy machines, and printers. Stooping, bending, reaching for files or supplies, and sitting or standing for extended periods are common.
