Crew – Assistant Coach

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of the program. This includes developing and mentoring athletes on and off the water, supervising daily practices, contributing technical and tactical instruction, attending all scheduled races, home and away, and fostering a healthy team environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assume assistant coaching responsibilities as designated by head coach Monday through Saturday from late March through May. Practices are typically between 3:45 – 6:00 PM, with races on some Wednesday and most Saturdays.
  • Communicate and collaborate daily with head coach in all aspects of player development both on and off the water.
  • Encourage and motivate students individually, and as a team by providing positive and supportive environment.
  • Assist the Head Coach with the administration of practices and training sessions.
  • Attend all home and away races and help with race day responsibilities.
  • Possess and maintain a coaching philosophy that is in accordance with the mission of Brooks School and the Independent School League.
  • Ensure the safety of student-athletes at all times and attend to first aid/CPR/AED requirements.

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A positive outlook with enthusiasm for the sport of
  • Experience coaching at the high school or college level and/or a successful personal background in competitive rowing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with secondary school students.
  • A strong commitment to the student-athlete concept.
  • Ability to drive a launch and promote water safety.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to drive 13 passenger school vans.
  • Pass background check and other references, as needed.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • Occasional lifting, bending and climbing stairs
  • Frequent talking, listening, walking, sitting and standing
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks and functions in a fast-paced working environment
