GENERAL OVERVIEW

 

The Chief Financial Officer oversees all aspects of the school’s finances and operations with primary responsibilities of strategic financial planning, budgeting, accounting and reporting. The position reports to the President and serves as a key member of the senior leadership team and Board of Directors’ Finance, Facilities and Infrastructure committee. The ideal candidate is a mission-driven strategic thinker who has superb people skills, uncompromising judgment and integrity, experience in an independent school preferred, and a demonstrated commitment to hallmarks of the mission of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. This is a full-time (12 month) position.

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                                                

  • Prepare operating Budget for submission to and approval by the Board of Directors; manage the budget and reforecast.
  • Work collaboratively with the President and Director of Enrollment on financial aid awards.
  • Coordinate the annual audit and implement any resulting audit recommendations.
  • Review the school’s financial position and prepare periodic financial reports for the school’s administration and Finance, Facilities and Infrastructure Committee.
  • Oversee risk management issues including insurance, emergency management plan, liability and safety concerns as well as compliance with local, state, and federal regulations applying to school and summer programs.
  • Coordinate the school’s Human Resource function in conjunction with the Human Resources Manager, by managing salaries and benefit programs, writing policies and job descriptions, interacting with personnel regarding all aspects of employment and benefits implementation, including the annual update of the Faculty and Staff Handbook.
  • Oversee the financial and operational functions of Notre Dame Academy and Summer programs.
  • Oversee the School’s Facilities Manager, capital improvement projects and the management of physical plant and grounds, including custodial care, cleaning, maintenance, safety and security, and compliance with regulations, including preparation of and maintenance of a facilities report.
  • Oversee the food service operation at the School through an independent food service contractor.
  • Negotiate key contracts and expense agreements with vendors, including, but not limited to, health insurance contracts, facilities maintenance contracts, staff benefit programs and auxiliary program agreements.
  • Perform related work as required.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in finance or accounting preferred or demonstrated equivalent experience. Prior experience in a school setting also preferred.

  • Experience in senior finance and administrative positions required
  • Knowledge of business office practices and procedures, budgeting, cash management, accounts payable and receivable, employee benefits required
  • Intermediate/expert knowledge of excel and accounting software required
  • Familiarity with legal documents and contracts is required
