The Associate Director of Development is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the operations of the Development Office while planning, organizing, directing, and executing CSW’s Annual Fund and supporting the major gifts program. The Associate Director of Development has both an internal and external facing role, responsible for cultivating, stewarding, and soliciting donors while fostering constructive working relationships with the development team and wider faculty and staff to ensure the smooth achievement of development goals.

 

The Associate Director will work closely with the Chief Development Officer, Head of School, and the Board of Trustees to deliver CSW’s development goals and set the standard for best practice philanthropy in a progressive independent school environment.

 

The Associate Director joins a team of five development staff and reports directly to the Chief Development Officer.

 

Direct Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Chief Development Officer and assist in setting fundraising priorities and creating working plans to meet financial goals
  • Coordinate the daily operations of the Development Office to ensure annual metrics are achieved on time and within budget
  • Manage all aspects of The CSW Fund, CSW’s Annual Fund, including management of expenses and annual budget
  • Work with the Database Administrator to ensure advancement operations are targeted and effective and the Assistant Director for Alumni and Parent Engagement to ensure all constituent groups are meaningfully engaged
  • Solicit gifts for The CSW Fund, restricted funds, and upcoming comprehensive campaign from a portfolio of current parents, past parents, alumni, and grandparents
  • Coordinate and implement a cultivation and stewardship strategy that engages, recognizes, and celebrates donors in a meaningful way and strengthens their relationship with CSW
  • Develop and grow relationships with leadership gift prospects through phone, email, video call, and face-to-face meetings
  • Oversee and work with the Assistant Director for Alumni and Parent Engagement to develop meaningful cultivation and stewardship opportunities for the Patience Lauriat Society, CSW’s planned giving society
  • Collaborate with the marketing & communications team to write, design, and create materials to support all fundraising efforts, including direct mail and email appeals, impact reports, and social media posts.
  • Partner with the Chief Development Officer to oversee and manage the Development Committee
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of The CSW Fund volunteer program (student, parents, alumni/ae)
  • Oversee and manage the Senior Parent Gift and Senior Class Gift and all volunteers involved
  • Collaborate with colleagues on reunion planning and fundraising
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of progress against annual fundraising goals and metrics and take any needed corrective action
  • In conjunction with Chief Development Officer and Business Office, manage offerings of annual restricted gifts and ensure correct accounting
  • Collaborate with colleagues and assist the Chief Development Officer in all development operations
  • Serve as an ambassador for CSW, representing the school at internal and external events

 

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Passion for CSW’s mission
  • 5-7 years of fundraising experience with 2-3 years of demonstrated personal solicitation experience
  • Experience managing a portfolio of 50-100 prospects and donors
  • Proven track record closing four- to five-figure gifts and upgrading current donors
  • Exceptional reasoning, problem-solving and analytical skills, including an ability to translate ideas and concepts into clear, actionable steps
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability display sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy
  • Excellent communication and writing skills and the ability to work collaboratively
  • Experience staffing volunteer groups to engage and involve donors and prospects
  • Experience partnering with senior administrators and trustees in fundraising efforts
  • Desire to work in a small team environment
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Highly organized with the ability to move from task to task with ease
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with teammates
  • Experience working in Raiser’s Edge database or transferable experience
  • Experience with international giving a plus
