Chewonki is seeking an Associate Director of Admissions to join the Maine Coast Semester team! The ideal candidate will have genuine love for connecting with and mentoring high school students, and must be willing to live and work in a residential and school environment. 


  • Location: Wiscasset, Maine (On Campus, in-person, Residential)
  • This is a residential position, housing included.
    • Reports to: Director of Enrollment Management & Financial Aid for Maine Coast Semester and Director of Maine Coast Semester
    • Schedule: Full time, year round, some nights and weekends
  • Salary:  $40,000 – $43,000 / Annually

Position Summary:

As part of a faculty, the Associate Director of Admissions will share a passion for place-based transformative learning and growing on the breathtaking Maine coast, and be a collaborative team member able to work with a diverse range of staff, students and families. The Associate Director of Admissions is a full time faculty position which supports the admissions office in all aspects of student recruitment, marketing, admissions, and enrollment for Maine Coast Semester at Chewonki. Additionally, the role is fully integrated into Semester life through both residential and curricular responsibilities that enable meaningful and enduring relationships with  high school students from around the country.




Admissions Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate strong relationships with sending school contacts and families. Build a travel schedule to visit and present in assigned territories and establish new leads.
  • Assist with, lead, and/or coordinate on-campus and virtual enrollment events.
  • Assist with recruitment events in alumni homes.
  • Respond promptly and with enthusiasm to all new inquiries, including phone calls, text messages, social media inquiries.
  • Assist with admissions database documentation and follow-up on all correspondence as well as updating student, family and school contacts.
  • Coordinate and lead tours for prospective families.
  • Schedule and assist with applicant interviews.
  • Oversee the Maine Youth Environmental Leaders Scholarship Committee to select merit-based scholarship recipients.
  • Assist with the admissions decision process (reading and evaluating applications). 
  • Coordinate sending out print and digital outreach and enrollment materials.
  • Act as primary content creator for Maine Coast Semester social media channels.
  • Oversee the Maine Coast Semester blog and blog-writing work program with students.
  • Manage MailChimp campaigns to prospective students  and school contacts.
  • Collaborate with Salesforce and Database Administrator on integration of Salesforce.
  • Participate in annual reviews of application materials, student and parent surveys, and key admission trends/metrics.

Residential and Student Life Responsibilities: 

  • Reside on the Chewonki campus and share meals with the community.
  • Attend weekly faculty meetings, daily school meetings, and work program.
  • Participate in the rotating duty schedule for weeknights and weekends.
  • Teach classes each semester depending on curriculum needs. 
  • Cultivate meaningful relationships with families on arrival/departure/visiting days.
  • Coordinate student arrivals and departures with support from the registrar.
  • Work with intention across the Foundation to build a thriving culture on Chewonki Neck and in the greater Chewonki community.
  • Assume other responsibilities as needed.



  • Must pass a Criminal Background Check including Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Must complete and maintain fingerprinting requirements of Maine Department of Education.
  • Valid Driver’s License approved by Chewonki’s insurance carrier.
    • Attend Chewonki driver training.
    • At least 21 years old (to drive participants).
  • Attend required onboarding and training sessions (in-person/on campus).
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.


  • A bachelor’s degree and independent school admissions or related experience.
  • Computer and Social Media Skills (Google Suite required, Salesforce or CRM software experience preferred).
  • Comfortable with public presenting and speaking.


  • Must be able to travel within the contiguous United States.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift at least 25 lbs. 
  • Must be able to work in an active, outdoor environment in all weather conditions.
