Associate Director of Admission and Director of Financial Aid

The Associate Director of Admission and Director of Financial Aid provides leadership and strategic vision regarding boarding and day student enrollment, with an emphasis on recruitment of diverse candidates who will contribute to Fay’s multicultural student body. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Admission.  This position demands a high level of professionalism, discretion, public relations, customer service, and problem solving, and requires a self-starter with excellent communication and organizational skills, who takes initiative and has the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal direction. Also required are: the ability to exercise sound judgment and resolve complex problems quickly, creatively and independently; the ability to oversee all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the office in the absence of the Director of Admission; the ability to be organized and detail-oriented while multitasking within the demands of a fast-paced work environment; and the ability to handle confidential material in a discreet manner.


The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience working in independent school admissions. A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred. The position requires several essential talents and skills:

  • Sound judgment and the ability to resolve complex problems quickly, creatively, and independently as needed

  • Proven ability to handle confidential material in a discreet manner
  • Experience with database systems in a network environment and various software applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with or ability to learn Finalsite
  • Experience managing financial aid processes 

Responsibilities include:

  • Assume supervision of day-to-day operations of the office when the Director is out of the office. Runs staff meetings, communicates with external constituencies on behalf of the office, and chairs Admission Committees when the Director is out of the office.
  • Manage data regarding enrollment and financial aid and present it to the Director of Admission and Admission Committee as needed. Anticipates challenges regarding admission and proposes solutions that support the School’s intention to have a robust, well-matched, and diverse student body.
  • Propose strategies and recommendations for expanding outreach to a broad audience of potential applicants through a variety of marketing efforts, including the creation of publications.
  • Organize and implement outreach efforts aimed at attracting students appropriate to the School, including information sessions, receptions, and school fairs. Travels nationally and internationally, as required. Attends off-campus conferences, seminars, and recruiting events, including events on evenings and weekends.
  • Present the school to audiences on and off campus. Communicates the values of the school and cultivates strong relationships with educational consultants, placement directors, parents, and students from around the world.
  • Provide strong customer service and maintain positive public relations with prospective candidates and their families. Responds and follows up to admission inquiries. Provides information to prospective parents regarding all aspects of the admission cycle and the School.
  • Serve as Fay School liaison with access programs including, but not limited to, Prep for Prep, ABC, IYM, and New Jersey SEEDS.
  • Conduct admission interviews (on campus, Skype, Zoom, phone or approved alternative) and tours, and works with families toward completing their admission files. Reads admission files and serves as a member, and sometimes the chair, of the Admission Committee to make final admission decisions.
  • Manage all aspects of the School’s financial assistance program. Chairs the Financial Aid Committee and makes recommendations to the Committee for allocation of financial aid funds in accordance with the School’s policies and procedures.
