General Statement of Duties

The Associate Dean of Faculty for Equity and Inclusion supports the work of the Assistant Head of School/Dean of Faculty in recruiting, hiring, and retaining a diverse and talented faculty. Additionally, the Associate Dean partners with the Director of the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning, the Director of Community and Equity Affairs, and the Assistant Head of School/Dean of Faculty in providing professional growth opportunities to faculty, both as a full faculty and in support of individual faculty goals. The Associate Dean works to identify and advance best practice standards of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging for the adults at St. Mark’s School. The Associate Dean supports the Assistant Head/Dean of Faculty in ensuring BIPOC faculty thrive at St. Mark’s. The Associate Dean actively partners with offices across the school to promote equity and inclusion and continuously evolve the educational program through an antiracist lens. While the Associate Dean of Faculty will focus primarily on the hiring, retaining, and professional growth of the faculty, they will also actively partner with the Chief Financial and Operations Officer to support the analogous work with staff by coordinating resources and best practices to create an equitable and inclusive experience for all St. Mark’s adults. 

Supervision and Partnerships

The Associate Dean of Faculty for Equity and Inclusion reports to the Assistant Head of School/Dean of Faculty. They will also be an active partner with the Director of the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning, the Director of Community and Equity, the Chief Financial and Operations Officer, and the Director of Human Resources.. 

Job Responsibilities

  1. Faculty and Staff Community and Equity Professional Growth 
  • Partners with the Director of Community and Equity Affairs, the Director of the Center, the Chief Financial and Operations Officer, and the Assistant Head/Dean of Faculty in providing Community and Equity-focused training for faculty and staff.
  • Supports the Assistant Head/Dean of Faculty and the Dean of Academics in the continued evolution of the School’s educational program through an antiracist lens.
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Head/Dean of Faculty on the promotion of off-campus professional development initiatives in the area of Community and Equity.
  • Assists in the development and the implementation of policies and initiatives that help all members of the campus community grow in cross-cultural competency and understanding.
  • Provides Community and Equity resources and support to new faculty, including the St. Mark’s Fellows. 
  • Coordinates the response to Bias Incident Reports involving faculty, in partnership with the Director of Community & Equity Affairs and the Director of Human Resources.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Community and Equity in supporting specific professional growth for faculty who oversee the Pathways Programs.
  • Assists with faculty and staff orientation programs in coordination with the Assistant Head of School/Dean of Faculty, Chief Financial and Operations Officer, Director of Human Resources, and Director of Community and Equity Affairs. 
  • Supports ongoing Community and Equity initiatives. Current initiatives include:
    • Establishing the goals and membership of the Antiracist Task Force, including the following working groups: Professional Development, Teaching and Learning, Constituency Engagement, and Student Experience
    • Writing and implementing the Antiracism Strategic Plan 
    • Summer Onboarding Program 
    • Execution of a DEI Audit and support for recommendations that follow
  1. Support for BIPOC Faculty and Staff
  • Supports the Assistant Head/Dean of Faculty in identifying and implementing practices and conditions that ensure BIPOC faculty thrive at St. Mark’s.
  • Serves as an advocate and liaison for underrepresented faculty and staff populations.
  1. Recruiting and Hiring a Diverse and Talented Faculty
  • Supports the Assistant Head/Dean of Faculty in recruiting and hiring BIPOC faculty and faculty who actively support diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives.
  • Establishes hiring and interview processes and practices that diversifies the candidate pool and allows the candidate to showcase their skills, knowledge and talents, regardless of the candidate’s experience and background.
  • Partners with the Assistant Head of School/Dean of Faculty to recruit two recent college graduates to serve as Fellows.
  1. Additional Responsibilities 
  • Teach one course in the Monday – Friday academic program.
  • Coach two seasons of athletics, or the equivalent, as determined by the Dean of Faculty.
  • Teach a Saturday Program course in two seasons and participate in Lion Term.
  • Reside on campus; serve on House and Social Duty Teams.
