Berwick Academy, a PreK-Grade 12 co-educational day school located in southern Maine seeks an Assistant Kindergarten Teacher (long-term substitute) to join its Lower School with an anticipated start-time of early December and lasting through a date-to-be determined in the spring of 2026. Berwick’s Kindergarten program is based on the whole child philosophy of creating a respectful and responsible learning community through exploration and discovery, involving meaningful social-emotional interactions, core academic readiness experiences and meaningful connections with a blend of special subjects. Central to the typical Kindergarten classroom experience is project-based learning and collaborative team-teaching. Qualified candidates will have a passion for and experiences with Early Childhood Education (including content area instruction, SEL programming and outdoor education learning opportunities) and an eagerness to be part of a team-teaching experience in supporting the Lead Kindergarten Teacher, while carrying out various large- and small-group instructional and classroom management experiences. The ability to foster positive relationships with students and their families, an interest in collaborating with Lower School (grades Pre-K through 4) colleagues and strong communication and writing skills are also qualities of a successful candidate.
