Assistant Director of Residential Life

This is a full-time, live-in position responsible for supporting the residential program, which serves approximately 70 boys between the ages of 13 & 19. Workday hours can vary based on availability, with two weekends on duty per month and on-call responsibilities. Pay will be commensurate with experience and scheduled time on duty.  Candidates for this position must be comfortable living in the residence hall.  Room and board are included.

Mount Saint Charles Academy is a Catholic private school located in Woonsocket, RI and founded in the tradition of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart.  Mount serves close to 600 students in a 6-12 setting.   In 2019 Mount re-established the tradition of serving boarding students with the addition of Brother Josephus Hall, an on-campus dorm that currently houses 72 elite male hockey players ages 13-19.

Description:

Workday hours can vary based on availability with two weekends on duty per month and on call responsibilities. Pay will be commensurate with experience and scheduled time on duty.

Reports to:  Director of Residential Life

Responsibilities:

  • Act in loco parentis for residents
  • Contribute to community building efforts
  • Plan and execute evening and weekend activities.
  • Carry the dorm phone and communicate with parents as necessary
  • Operate a 14 passenger minibus for trips off campus
  • Work with students on academic and time management issues both during group study hall and individually with students as needed.
  • Actively engage with students 
  • Monitor student whereabouts and facilitate student checkouts
  • Work with school leadership, Residential life staff,  the Student Leadership Association, Campus ministry,  program specialists, our Athletic Director and others to plan and execute activities that enhance the student experience
  • Maintain and appropriately communicate schedules
  • Supervise rotating dorm parents
  • Act as a member of the residential life team and communicate with the hall director regularly
  • Address student discipline issues, rule violations, and safety concerns through appropriate channels
  • Support move in weekend, parent weekends, move out days and “all hall” events
  • Participate in dorm meetings and residential life team meetings 
  • Celebrate student successes on social media, take and post photos to share in newsletter
  • Other duties as assigned

The connections residents make while on campus are essential to their success.  The person in this role will act in loco parentis (in place of a parent) for approximately 70 students who choose to live on campus. They help to create a healthy and supportive home-like environment in our dorm and help students to develop social and emotional skills around independence, living in community, time management and more.

This position is ideally suited for an enthusiastic and energetic individual familiar with the boarding school environment.
