SUMMARY

St. Paul’s School is looking for intern teachers for its Advanced Studies Program for the summer of 2023. A great opportunity for those interested in education, ASP interns do a substantial amount of teaching and tutoring in cooperation with the master teacher to whom they are assigned. The pairing of interns and faculty is done early enough so that they can communicate and plan before the program begins. Orientation, beginning mid-June, prepares interns for their responsibilities in and out of the classroom. Applicants must be at least in their second year of college to apply.

The 2023 ASP Intern Teacher dates of employment are June 19 – July 31, 2023.

RESPONSIBILITIES

A great opportunity for those interested in education, ASP interns do a substantial amount of teaching and tutoring in cooperation with the master teacher to whom they are assigned. The pairing of interns and faculty is done early enough so that they can communicate and plan before the program begins. Orientation, beginning mid-June, prepares interns for their responsibilities in and out of the classroom.

In addition to teaching and tutoring in cooperation with the master teacher, the interns live in dormitories along with students, other interns, and a house supervisor. Four afternoons a week interns oversee and instruct students in various sports and activities. Interns’ responsibilities include house supervision and library supervision on a regular basis. Interns also assist with the college advising program.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should demonstrate a genuine interest in being a member of a community of learners, a willingness to work hard, and a solid academic record. The Advanced Studies Program Internship includes a generous stipend as well as room, board and travel expenses.  Prior to the program start, applicants must pass a criminal background check (to include fingerprinting). Applicants must also provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Applicants must be in at least their second year of college to apply. Education courses are not a prerequisite.

  • Two letters of recommendation (three preferred) from people who know you well. At least one should be from faculty or staff in the field in which you wish to teach. The second and optional third may be from another professor, employer, coach, teacher, or other supervisor.
  • A personal statement : In no more than 2 pages, please explain why you are interested in working with high school students, specifically at ASP,  what compels you to apply for this position, and how do you understand the value of the ASP internship program as a component of your career journey.
