Position Summary:

We seek passionate, talented individuals to join our team. Our Academic Dean serves as a role model for OSS  teachers, students and families while ensuring excellent outcomes for everyone.  A qualified individual will demonstrate a mindset for educating low-income girls from broad personal backgrounds, while helping to build a positive school-wide community.  They will have a strong work ethic as well as exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills.  A fundamental understanding of coordinating student support services will also be key to success in this position.

Responsibilities – Complete the specific tasks associated with the general responsibilities listed below:

  • Teach engaging, developmentally appropriate, culturally competent and challenging lessons with research-based pedagogy /best practices; promote a culture of learning
  • Support the development of interdisciplinary curriculum, vertical alignment, unit planning and pacing guides
  • Assess, report on and coordinate student progress in accordance with school policies and practices
  • Effectively manage schoolwide environment in collaboration with Head of School and in accordance with school policies and culture
  • Co-organize and supervise grade-level field trips and events
  • Lead or co-lead homeroom period and routines
  • Serve as an academic advisor and advocate for all students
  • Lead a weekly club
  • Engage in staff duties such as student lunch/recess, passing periods and responsibility for community spaces
  • Fulfill duties remotely, if possible, when offsite work is required
  • Actively participate in all professional development workshops, grade level, subject area, and staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Teaching experience, preferably at middle-school level, particularly with economically and racially/ethnically diverse populations
  • Advanced coursework in education and/or teaching certification, including knowledge of state standards and objectives, learning theory and curriculum development
  • Strong speaking, written and verbal communication skills
  • Superior organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency with computers and software programs, especially Google-suite products; integrating technology into curriculum
  • Commitment to, and interest in, being part of a community that supports inclusivity, equity and social justice
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including professional collaboration and cultural competence; ability to give and receive feedback and academic coaching openly for professional and student growth
