3rd Grade Teacher

The Nantucket New School is a PK-8 independent school that values academic and personal growth while respecting the pace of childhood. We are seeking a 3rd grade teacher. There will be two classes of 3rd graders so a team approach will be used and each class will have ten students.

The Teacher is responsible for supervision of his/her children’s group as well as the design and implementation of day to day activity and learning plan.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Provide planning and execution of appropriate reading readiness experiences for each curriculum group
• Provide planning and execution of appropriate math, literature, science, etc. activities
• Maintain records of progress of each child’s growth and development
• Maintain communication regarding child’s growth and development with staff members, Division Head, and parents
• Supporting the students’ behavioral needs and strategies
• Ensure adequate nurturing of child’s developmental tasks

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree required
• At least one year work experience with appropriate age group
• Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Demonstrated ability to practice effective time management, organizational skills, priority management and analytical ability
• Good role model
• Sound personal judgment, initiative and resourcefulness
