Four Great Reasons

Great Teachers

You remember forever the great teachers, the ones who went out of their way to know you, support you, and encourage you to do things you didn’t think you could do.

MORE

Tremendous Opportunities

At its root, "opportunity" means “favorable wind.”More than anything, you want your children to have opportunities in life.

Nurturing Every Student

Ask parents with kids in independent schools what they most value about the school, and they almost always say that they love the personal attention their child receives.

MORE

Welcoming Communities

Families go to independent schools not because of an accident of geography, but because they identify with the school's mission, beliefs and dedication to excellence in education.

Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall SchoolFROM BLOG

Our very own Ms. Gwen Shipley has been recognized by the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT) as the Massachusetts Outstanding Biology Teacher of the Year. This award comes as no surprise as Ms. Shipley has been a community favorite for the past nine years at Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School. Whether teaching Biology I, Biology II, or an elective, she is a model teacher and fully embodies the CH-CH philosophy of teaching students the way they learn. From engaging biology labs involving reconstructing raccoon skeletons to being published in The American Biology Teacher, Ms. Shipley is an inspiration to teachers and students alike.   "She varied her teaching so that every student could learn, and motivated us to put in a lot of effort so that we could become better biologists. She worked to help students become more self-reliant and independent learners. When I began thinking about my college major, I knew that I wanted to continue my study of biology." - India D., Alumna, Class of 2010 “Ms. Shipley has been a valued department member for many years. Her creative and innovative teaching style has made her a student favorite.” - Mr. William Gostylo, Science Department Chair

Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall SchoolFROM BLOG

Louisa Clark Harrington, longtime trustee and great friend of Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010.  She died peacefully in her sleep on the verge of her 92nd birthday. A beautiful and moving memorial service was held on Sunday, July 18th, at the Unitarian Church in Waltham, MA.  The service paid tribute to Louisa, and she was remembered by family, friends, and members of the CH-CH community.  Dr. Siri Akal Khalsa, President of CH-CH, knew Louisa for ten years as a friend and on-campus neighbor.  “She really had an interest in the school, and she was a valuable commodity. She was thoughtful, assertive, kind, clear about what needed to be done and who should be doing it…For the causes and people she cared about, there was no one more loyal than Louisa.” Louisa was an active trustee for 30 years, and a true supporter of CH-CH. She attended school events, plays and concerts, and served on the Buildings and Grounds Committee of the Board of Trustees.  In 1988, Louisa made an institutional changing donation to our school, giving her family’s Clark Farm Estate to CH-CH.  The gift included 12 acres of land, a pond and three buildings.  The buildings included the Jonas Clark House, a historical structure where her family lived for six generations, along with the Atwood building (currently used as the sophomore academic building), and the Harrington House (currently used as faculty housing and for the Buildings and Grounds department).  This donation is the largest single gift in the 182 year history of CH-CH.  In honor of Louisa’s incredible service to CH-CH, Dr. Eric Thorgerson, Chair of the Board of Trustees, announced that North Hall is renamed Harrington Hall.  Harrington Hall houses a student dormitory, faculty apartments, the dining hall, the bookstore, and the office of the Head of School. This tribute is fitting, as Harrington Hall is the center of campus, and where Louisa spent time socializing with students and neighbors. Louisa was a wonderful campus presence, spirited soul, and dear friend and supporter to many of us.  This was, in many ways, her school.  She will be greatly missed.
